Mantrayana, Tantra, Sutra & Empowerments.

Tantric & Sutric Mantras.

I've read that Mantrayana (Way of Mantras) is still Tantric Buddhism, which means that certain Tantric Mantras can be practiced after getting empowerment from one's Teacher (Lama).

There are also Sutric Mantras, these can be practiced by anyone, even without getting empowerment.

See also, if You wish: [ Sutra, Tantra & the Ways ].

Blog author's practice.

I am on Mantrayana Way, because Lama Ole Nydahl told me to speak Mantras, mostly the
OM MANI PEME HUNG mantra.

I've also heard from the Teacher (won't disclose His name here), that I've learned KARMAPA CHENNO mantra, so - if I didn't misunderstand His words - I can use this mantra.

My plan is to use few Sutric Mantras and the KARMAPA CHENNO mantra as well, as my main practice.

OM MANI PEME HUNG - Compassion Mantra, can be practiced anytime, by anyone,
OM A RA PA CA NA DHIH - Wisdom Mantra, can be practiced as Sutric Mantra or as Tantric Mantra,
(OM) GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SOHA - Heart Sutra Mantra
/ It is written that the Heart Sutra teaches Emptiness through the epitome of Compassion /,

KARMAPA CHENNO - 'Power of all Buddhas work through us'. It's Tantric Mantra, but I am allowed to use it. :)

Don't mix Tantric Methods and Teachers.

Quote.

( ... )

Tibetans never mix practices from different lamas and Vajrayana transmissions, even if they have the same lineage-lama and use the same texts; this is because it is known to lead to unending and fruitless discussions rather than a deep inner growth and lasting experience.

I therefore advice strongly against bringing confusion into our practices by taking tantric methods from teachers not sent to our DW centres by Karmapa.

Yoga Tantra, form of Mantra?

... i have a plan, it's just an offer:

... perhaps esoterics, silly computer game, and buddhist yoga tantra can be combined.

... 'leyline of the void', energy line - not only magickal - of the void, which can be source of power,
i think.

... can it be reduced to two mantras?

1. 'Calm Abiding',
2. 'Void'.
...

> in short:
... experiencing suffering in Calm Abiding, karma analysis,
... void 'meditation', eliminating causes of suffering.

... some more of the details - also in comments to this article:

Sutra, Tantra & the Ways.

Sutra / Skt., Tib. do /.

Often called the Causal Way; on this path one stablishes, over a long time, the causes for enlightenment in order to recognize the characteristic of all things, their emptiness.

In its further meaning, literally 'guideline,' it is a term for the individual specific discourses of Buddha.

-- Quoted from 'Fearless Death' book by Lama Ole Nydahl.

Blog author's comment: Sutras refer to the written texts, that can be read with analytical mind. Then meditation can be used to turn knowledge into one's experience(s).

Great Way / Skt. Mahayana, Tib. Thegchen /.

The way of the bodhisattvas, where one strives for enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

Compassion and wisdom are deepened through study, analysis and meditation over a long time, and then expand into insight.

The Great Way sometimes is used synonymously with term sutra.

-- Quoted from 'Fearless Death' book by Lama Ole Nydahl.

Tantra, Buddhist / Skt. /.

A highly effective part of the Great Way in which identification with enlightenment and holding the Pure View are the most important methods;

Tantrayana / the Tantra path / has the same meaning as Vajrayana / Skt. Diamond Way / and Mantrayana / the Mantra path /.

The goal, buddhahood, becomes the way.

A fast way to enlightenment, but one that implies trust in one's own mind and a compassionate attitude.

-- Quoted from 'Fearless Death' book by Lama Ole Nydahl.

Diamond Way / Skt. Vajrayana, Tib. Dorje Thegpa /.

Also called Tantrayana and Mantrayana.

The highest level of Buddha's teachings, encompassing body, speech, and mind with goal of full enlightenment.

In this practice, the goal also becomes the path by using fast and profound methods.

These teachings can only be used with the perspective of seeing everything as fundamentally pure.

-- Quoted from 'Fearless Death' book by Lama Ole Nydahl.

Mantra / Skt., Tib. ngag /.

Natural vibration of buddha aspect;

Activates the Buddha aspect's power-field.

Many Diamond Way meditations have a phase where mantras are repeated.

-- Quoted from 'Fearless Death' book by Lama Ole Nydahl.

Blog author's comment: Sometimes mantras are explained as: 'Protective Sounds' / pl: 'Dźwięki Ochronne' /.
