Mahakala.

Mahakala.

Mahakala (Tib. Nagpo Chenpo): translates as 'Great Black One.'

This is a category of protectors. The two-armed form is called Bernagchen.

Black Coat.

Black Coat (Skt. Mahakala / Tib. Bernagchen): the main protector of the Karma Kagyu lineage.

He is bluish-black in color and is depicted as either jumping or riding a mule with his companion Radiant Godess (Tib. Palden Lhamo).

In his right hand, he holds a chopping knife, which severs all obstacles, and in his left hand, he holds a skull bowl with the heart-blood of the ego.
