Arhat.

Introduction.

'Theravada Buddhism defines arhat (Sanskrit) or arahant (Pali) as 'one who is worthy' or as a 'perfected person' having attained nirvana.

Other Buddhist traditions have used the term for people far advanced along the path of Enlightenment, but who may not have reached full Buddhahood.'

Commentary.

Theravada Buddhism's goal is to attain Liberation, Lesser Nirvana.

Mahayana & Vajrayana Buddhism's goal is to attain Enlightenment, Great Nirvana.

Enlightenment occurs after Liberation, after one wishes for it.

Grevious misconduct of Killing Arhat denies one access to Buddha's Teachings for very long time,
i think for many incarnations - it's terribly bad karma.
