Meditation reduces ego, makes us more think of others, less of ourselves.
Goal is to defeat ego, to reach Liberation, then Enlightenment.
When we think of others more, we become altruists, we forget about ourselves, our egos become altruistic.
It gradually progressess, we just follow our insights, try to help others - fulfilling needs appearing in mind.
It's addicting & tricky feeling, it can reach stage where ego's needs to help others to become better make us become our own enemies - we forget of ourselves too much & destroy our lives by unreasonable behaviour.
Ego's reductionist tendencies accelerate, it becomes anti-ego - self destruction mechanism in ourselves.
When it goes too far, we might 'wake up' - start to wonder what is ego, what is not.
Then thought in mind appears telling us: 'Be that way. Use Your own Mind'.
We start caring for ourselves more, after reducing harmful & self-destructive habits, becoming stronger in the process - with less of self-harm tendencies in mind.
But our lives need to be rebuilt, we caused damage by unreasonable behaviour already.
Too much of meditation might be harmful, might cause self-destruction - one should follow Lama's Advices to survive & prosper.
Alone it's much harder, but insights help with that anyway.
Just went through that stage, not sure how long it lasted - it was like a trance, a 'war trance' against my own ego.
